💥 Our newest Eponine playlist is by Ben Carey, co-founder of music documentary production company YoungOnes 💥
There is something very special about YoungOnes documentaries. They are artfully shot, slick and full of atmosphere; transporting you instantly into the heart of the action. You cling onto every shot, every word spoken, every song; and when it’s finished, you’d be happy to press play and watch it all over again. As well as producing films (with lots of exciting projects in the pipeline), they create fabulous monthly playlists and regularly interview musical artists and producers - it’s an impressive spread. We caught up with Ben to pick his brains about his playlist, his love for music and his favourite gig to date.
TALK US THROUGH YOUR PLAYLIST . . .
The playlist is a sunny mix of old and new, funky and smooth.
FAVOURITE MUSIC GENRE?
Hard to pinpoint one genre but downtempo/chill out/balearic music has an extra special place in my heart.
WHICH ARTISTS FEATURE MOST IN YOUR YOUNG ONES PLAYLIST?
Thievery Corporation, Skinshape (in the Eponine playlist), William Orbit and Junodream are all artists that have featured a lot in the YoungOnes playlist.
MOST MEMORABLE LIVE MUSIC EXPERIENCE?
As a big Pink Floyd fan seeing David Gilmour perform at Royal Albert Hall in 2016 was pretty amazing. Chemical Brothers at Glastonbury in 2019 and any set from Andrew Weatherall is also up there.
BEST PLACE TO FIND NEW MUSIC?
The last handful of years it has to be Spotify, the algorithm has fed me well, but digging into SoundCloud and Mixcloud also often delivers the goods.
FAVOURITE SONG IN THE WORLD?
Tough call but Water From A Vine Leaf by William Orbit probably takes first place.
